The Alzheimer's Café in the municipality of Moerdijk is a meeting place for people dealing with dementia. On Wednesday, January 18, the Café was dedicated to the New Year. There was music and an information market. Attendees enjoyed the music and information. The next Alzheimer's Café will be on March 22. Please make a note in your calendar!

“It was a very nice evening,” says Ursula Baaij, coordinator of Informal Care at Surplus. “Too bad there weren't very many people, but the people who were there really enjoyed the music of the Refreintjes enormously. They have a repertoire of somewhat older Dutch songs. They sing beautifully and bring it with the necessary show and humor. So you see what music can do with people. It was a feast of recognition for both caregivers and visitors with dementia.”

Information market on dementia
At the information market, people were told about what the Social Approach to Dementia entails. And what Surplus does to help people with dementia live at home for as long and as pleasantly as possible. It is important to look at what people can still do. And how they can continue to participate. The district nurse talked about handy and fun tools that people can use. Two employees of the library were present with books about dementia. They told about the activities organized by the library for people with dementia. The Surplus Mantelzorgcoaches were also present. They told about how they support and guide informal caregivers in carrying out their informal care tasks. So there was something for everyone.

Next Alzheimer's Café on March 22
The next Alzheimer's Café is on March 22 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Graanbeurs in Fijnaart. The topic then is the diagnosis of dementia. How does this message fall? What will change and what should one take into account? About this topic someone will come and explain in a simple and clear way. There is also ample opportunity to ask questions. Registration is not necessary. Everyone is welcome. The Alzheimer Cafés are organized by Thebe and Surplus with the support of Alzheimer Nederland.
