Young caregiver

Do you care for someone at home?

Then you may be a young caregiver - even though it may feel quite normal to you.

For example, you care for a parent, brother or sister who is ill or needs help. You often worry, miss time for yourself or sometimes feel alone. Recognizable? Then you are not alone: 1 in 4 young people in the Netherlands is in such a situation. We prefer to call young informal caregivers co-makers; because young informal caregivers obviously make a lot possible.

At Surplus, we are here for you.

We help young family caregivers with:

✅ Tips and info that suit you
✅ Fun activities to relax for a while
✅ Someone who really listens
✅ Confidential conversations, if you need them

Whether you are 10, 15 or 22: you are already doing a lot, you don't have to do it alone.

Week of the young caregiver

Week of the Young Caregiver

Young family caregivers provide help at home and support difficult situations. Care for parents/caregivers who are ill or siblings who need extra attention.

They make a lot possible and ensure that ‘Fleur is in bed at 6:30’, ‘Dinner is ready’ and ‘no smelly laundry’. Team Mantelzorg and Youth Work pay attention to them. And you can help too.

Do you recognize a young family caregiver?

Many young people don't know they are a young family caregiver. Can you recognize them?
