Different way of looking at things
For people with dementia, the most difficult thing about having dementia is not the disease itself (memory problems, confusion, losing grip) but the way the environment reacts to them and deals with them once they have the mark of dementia. That people no longer take someone seriously, doubt an answer, fall silent upon entry. This all plays into the reluctance to share that you have dementia. So dementia is not only a rotten disease but also a social issue. Like any other person, people with dementia want to be taken seriously, to matter, to be surrounded by people and, above all, to get on with normal daily life. Surplus calls this approach Social Approach Dementia and works with people with dementia and their loved ones to find ways to live life to the fullest. Tailored to personal needs. Surplus likes to do this together with loved ones and neighbors.
